RESOLVED: Control Room not working as expected?

In Audio Connections - Control Room, when I set the correct outputs to my monitors using the “Metering” channel — I get signal to my Monitors.

[SOUND]

When I set those same outputs as the outputs to my Monitors (which is what I want), I get no sound.

[NO SOUND]

I’m so confused though, because signal still comes into Control Room when routed this way. I can tell because I can see the signal coming in on the meter, as well as see the signal in an insert like ProQ.

But still I hear nothing. In order to hear, I need to set my outputs to the Metering channel. But then none of my inserts will work, and I don’t have the flexibility that sending to the Monitor channel allows me. I also can’t hear the metronome because of this (if i use control room) :frowning:

First off, what is this “Metering” Channel, and second — what in the world could I be doing wrong?

From the manual page 537:

You can use a metering channel for connecting a hardware metering device.
The metering channel allows you to meter monitoring sources without having the listening volume affect the meter. This channel is a physical ASIO output which feeds the same signal that goes through the meter channel.

Thanks Fredo.
So I don’t want to use a metering channel at all. I want my output to go to my Monitors. Can you think of any reason why sending the to the same outputs on the Monitor Channel would not work? Why I wouldn’t be getting any sound unless sending to the Metering channel? I mean my complete Control Room feels broken. It is making some parts of Nuendo pretty much unusable. It seems like this must be a bug — but I was really hoping it was user error.

Probably wrong settings in Control room.
Not in Control Room connections as per your screenshots, but in Control Room settings.

Fredo

I’ve tried every combination of Control Room settings I could, and still it doesn’t work. So no, I don’t think it is wrong settings. I’m starting to think this is a bug — and a very annoying one that I can’t seem to fix.

That’s not what I meant. There isn’t much that you can do wrong in this section.
Except maybe that “Exclusive Device ports” is preventing you from using these same channels.

I really can’t offer any help from here, without seeing your complete setup.
You’ll have to do some troubleshooting yourself.
Maybe start with making everything visible in Control Room.
Is there signal in the monitoring section?

Fredo

I don’t see signal coming into thru in the “Monitors” section, but it is coming through the “Main”, yet I’m not hearing anything.
The only way I can hear anything is if I send it through a “Metering” channel or I bypass CR all together and just route normally on the Stereo Out, but when I do either of those things, nothing changes in the CR as far as I can tell.

I also get signal coming in on the “Main” part even when I have no audio routed at all to my monitors. Don’t know if this is normal.

It’s just all so strange. I don’t think I’m doing anything differently to how I was doing things before I had this problem. It just randomly stopped working for me one day.

I am sure you haven’t checked everything, and I really can’t anticipate to any setting you might or not have in your setup.
Please check all settings of Control Room. For example the Inserts page.

It was this button here. The blue button to “Activate Control Room Channel”. I guess I had turned it off by accident. Sneaky little button.

You should tell it to stop being sneaky.

I would.

Okay I will, thanks for the tip!

Truth to be told - these new graphic solution to indicate on/off is really, really sneaky.

Yeah, I’m not exactly sure why it needs to be there, but it probably makes sense for some workflows that I’m not privy to. I personally would never need to touch that button.

I had a similar issue, mine turned out to be “Listen” level turned down to -infinity dB in CR Settings.

Turned it back up and good to go
