today I tried to sort out a long standing issue with my key-commands.
In specific the one “Respell Using Note Name Above” has stopped working quite a while ago - I guess since around Dorico version 5.
On my German keyboard layout, I have these two key-commands set up:
The second one just stopped working at some point, I have tried deleting and re-applying it, I don’t seem to get it working.
It might be the key-combination I am using, I don’t know: alt´
I am pretty confident I had this working in earlier years…
Any feedback very welcome.
Hi @k_b, that seems to be a dead key when using the German keyboard layout (which I also use). Here some more information, from Google (and the screenshot of the keyboard viewer with German language). My suggestion is to use a different key or a different modifier:
Somewhat related: those keys are dead also on a Swedish keyboard, and the only way I have found to use them has been to set them up for use via an external macro program. Maybe that could be an option if you want to use them.

the only strange thing: when I first setup my keyboard commands at Dorico Version 1 (same keyboard), I had that combination somehow working - unless I am completely mistaken…
Do you have a personal suggestion for the respell commands on the German keyboard layout?
Referring to those two commands, I use command+ and command - (overwriting so some factory key commands that use those shortcuts, If I remember correctly):
Such an essential feature. Hope this is amended in the next version. Respell using note below in Portuguese keyboard layouts should work straight away. Thanks in advance.
You can assign any individual keyboard shortcuts with these two functions - if you avoid “dead” keys by your Operating System.
Go to Preferences, Keyboard Commands and put “respell” into the search field.
Then assign keyboard shortcuts of your choice.
There are too many hardware and operating systems, languages, and different kinds of keyboard layouts in this world; it can’t cover all at the same time.
Don’t be afraid; re-assign the shortcuts and make Dorico your own personalised notation tool.
It has some charm that we can individually tailor our software to our needs.
Behold, it is not just the key commands; in Dorico, it is actually all settings which can and should be tailored to one’s own preferences.
I understand that. But normal functionality should be working on all languages, as much as possible. Otherwise, do we cease to report faults? I hope the development team can find some time to correct this.
You can help by providing your version of macOS operating system, your language version, your keyboard language (it’s Portuguese, isn’t it?), your computer hardware.
Are you running your Dorico 6 version (which exactly) in native English language, or have you switched to Portuguese?
It used to work to include " ^ " and " ´ " keys as key commands but someday after an OS update it stopped working. Still miss my " control/option ^ " for marcato.
Marcato works well from scratch (# as shown by holding the cursor on top of the sign): shift + 3. Anyhow, these default key commands are supposedly different for different keyboard layouts. The issue is, to be sure, with default key commands, which should work from scratch in the keyboard language of the user.

we have talked too much, my mistake, apologies.
I had a look into this and I suspect a simple, but understandable user error.
I set my computer (which is also a Mac) to a Portuguese Keyboard layout.
Then I set Dorico to use the Portuguese Keyboard Layout.
I looked up the two default key commands for Respell Using Note Name Above (Alt +):
I tried both key commands - and they work “out of the box”, as you expected them to do.
Both keys are actually situated very comfortably next to each other on the Portuguese keyboard (green arrows).
Some people mistake the accent key (red arrow) with the minute key (like me myself- see opening thread), and this is, what might have happened to you too (just my guess). Can you confirm?
Yes, exactly. But it does not work on my Portuguese keyboard. It’s the two keys next to each other, yes (your green arrows). Respell using note below does not work. Thanks anyway.
