Rest missing after divisi

Hi, I am rewriting a string orchestra score after importing it from Sibelius. There have been some weird things that I have, I think, figured out, but this is something which has stumped me. After violin 1 goes from solo to tutti, it stays on 2 staves for 1 system, and the very first bar has a missing 8th rest, but has a whole rest hanging over the bar. As suggested, I have begun to create new section players for each of the instruments in the string section, create the appropriate divisi changes in each instrument, and then copy and paste the music from each of the imported staves into the appropriate divisi staves, then delete the old parts. This, however, has stumped me. I have begun with violin 1, and after violin 1 goes from solo to tutti, it stays on 2 staves for 1 system, and the very first bar has a missing 8th rest, but has a whole rest hanging over the measure. Screen shot attached. Thanks for any help.

The gli altri staff has no notes in measure 12, and in a sense it doesn’t ‘know’ that there’s a divisi change which is hiding the staff from the second 8th onwards so it has no choice but to show a bar rest. Technically you could put an explicit 8th-note rest on the 1 of that bar to sort it out but a much more straightforward solution is to just drag the signpost back to the barline. This also avoids the issue of redundant staves—the fact that you print both would imply there’s a difference between them and players would waste time looking for it.

So the div change should take place at the start of the measure, not the first note? I will adhere to that.

Thank you

In this particular case that is indeed the straightforward solution, but in other cases it may not be. With experience you’ll learn to spot the edge cases and work around them.
