I have used Vertical Spacing > Staff Visibility to hide empty staves, but in one place I want to restore the hidden staff for just one system. Anything I do adds a staff from that point to the end. How do I make it work for just four measures on one system?

You’ll need two manual staff visibility changes: One on the first system to explicitly show the staff you want, and then one on the next system to reset the visibility of that staff.
Okay, I think I get it. You use Manual Staff Visibility to show a staff at a System Break, and then hide it at another System Break. Is that it, or am I over-complicating matters?

That should be it. But the second one should be Reset, not Hide, so that the staff reverts to whatever it’s doing according to the global Staff Visibility settings. If you choose Hide, then that staff will be hidden until the end of the flow even if there’s music in it, and you’ll wonder where it went!
