Rests appear in condensed bars

In a condensed layout certain full bar rests in condensed mesures show up as combinations of rests. I have verified that the measures are empty in the full score, redeleting their contents. What gives?

Here are two flutes in condensed vs uncondensed

And similar nonsensical horn rests (horn 4 should be a full measure rest):

Condensing is a very subtle and complex subject. Many of your settings affect how the condensing will be done. And condensing changes are often required to get the exact result that you want.

You won’t get much help to a specific issue here unless you upload an example of the problem.

It’s a known issue if the last phrase before this entrance was condensed into a single voice. This condensing approach then ‘technically’ continues right up to the next entrance, breaking up the downstem rests. Until the developers get around to fixing it, the workaround is to put a Condensing Change on the preceding barline (192 in your first example) and set the Manual Condensing to upstem & downstem voices. Then on the next barline another Condensing Change, Manual Condensing: Reset.

no can do, not my music!

thanks, that got me this:

which is good enough BUT I would prefer the first voice upstem and a whole rest underneath. Any workaround?

Try changing this setting in Layout Options > Condensing.

It’s also available as a local Condensing Change:

You could make a copy, cut it down to the section in question, and obscure the pitches so no one would recognize it. If you want help solving the problem…
