Rests in barless music

I edit early barless music. I need to specify the value of rests specifically, not have Dorico lump them altogether into one long unmanageable rest. Can this be done yet through Preferences? Can’t find a way. . . .

Enter the rests as explicit rests like you would enter notes: in Input mode, switch on Force Duration (O) and Rest Input (, - comma), and enter the rests then as “notes” (using any note name letter A-G), changing the durations (with or without dots) as needed.
