Rests problems

Hi folks,

I’m having a problem with rests that aren’t appearing for two bars, even though everything was working perfectly a few bars earlier.
I can’t work out where the problem is coming from. It can’t be the settings, as the same problem would occur every time.
If anyone has any ideas…

Hi @ghfagan51, select the passage (including at least the last note or rest before the hidden rest/s and at least the first note or rest after the hidden rests/s. Edit: in the same voice), or if you need the hidden rests to reappear for the whole flow you can do Select All (filter for notes and chords), this is necessary only if in the Preferences you have not Show All properties enabled: [CleanShot 2026-07-13 at 20.36.48@2x] then look in the properties panel, and deactivate Start…

If it doesn’t help, please post a cut-down version of you Dorico file to see what is going on.

This is not unknown when changing instruments in the midst of a measure.

Thanks for your help. I’ve spent ages trying to sort this out! Yet I didn’t delete any rests when I wrote the notes. I think I’ll have to check all my score…

In that layout you can do Select All, then deselect the final byline: if you have the correct Preferences set, you will see all properties: look for Start Voice and End Voice overrides in the Notes and Rests section, and deactivate them all, and see what happens

As I’m on my summer holidays, I can’t try out your solution just yet, but as soon as I’m back (I reckon it’ll be very soon – I can’t stay away from music for too long), I’ll give it a go.
