Retrospective Record does not include delay from a VST

Hi

I just wanted to ask this to see, if it’s a software limitation.

I am using Arturia’s VST called Matrix, and there is a preset that includes a reverb effect. When i hit a note and let go, then it fades out over a longer period.

I played a simple chord progression and then activated Retrospective Record in Cubase. Then I find out that the reverb is not included on that “recording”. The notes end abruptly, when released.

But when I enabled record, and played the notes again, then the reverb effect was included.

Is this a limitation of Retrospective Record?

Maybe it’s just a special exception with this particular VST?

EDIT: I made a test. I copy pasted recorded midi notes from the event created by Retrospective Record into a new, empty event. Still no reverb.

I also tried copy pasting the same notes into the event created by the normal record mode. Also no reverb.

etrospective Record in Cubase only captures MIDI notes, not the real-time audio output or effects like reverb and delay. To include those, you need to record audio while playing or render the MIDI through the VST after recording.

What preset?….this is in Matrix 12 V yes??

Matrix-12 V2
Preset: Limuidz

Odd…..I get same sound on playback of retrospective record as in live play.

Could you maybe upload a CPR with the two events…one that plays with and one without reverb?

matrix_test.cpr (218.3 KB)

Well, I’m baffled.

Not only are the two events different but if I play the Matrix from the editor keyboard or draw a note in either event it’s always without the sustain, but from midi input or from the vst keyboard the sustain is there.

However, it’s impossible to recreate this scenario in a new project on my system, it plays with sustain no matter what I do, retrospective record, drawing in notes, all the same.

It may be one of those Arturia glitches - I had a few problems with their VSTs

But yeah - now I am kinda curious about, what causes this mysterious behavior

I wonder if this problem is caused by combining that particular VST with Cubase. In other words, if other DAWs would behave differently when using Arturia’s Matrix VST if that DAW had equavalent of “retrospective record” mode

Well as I said, my Cubase is also behaving differently….So maybe a combo of o/s and DAW version (I’m 15 Pro on Mac Sequoia)
