Return to Start Position on or off?

Hi, after six years using other DAWs (Cubase user since 1993 before that) I have a lot of catching-up to do since version 10.5.

I’m kind of struggling with the Return to Start Position on Stop. Isn’t there a Return to Start Position on Start? ie. the cursor stays where it is on stop and goes back to start position on play.
For the most part I have that option on, but when working on the editors, if I spot some bit I want to work on and stop the transport, it sends me back to the beginning and have to go back there manually.

The two workarounds I can think of make it a little bit less annoying, but they’re not perfect.
Leaving it on, assigning a key command so I can switch if off momentarily and then back on.
Or, leaving it off and selecting Start from Cycle or Selection, or press Num. 1 every single time before Play.

Am I missing something obvious?
I can’t remember how I used to do it before, but I seem to remember pressing Num. 1 a lot.

Return to Start Position on Stop has to be disabled; otherwise, the cursor will always jump to the start position when you stop. In addition, you can set various start modes:

If none of these options fit, you can also create a macro and assign it to a keyboard shortcut, e.g.

Transport - Go to Project Start
Transport - StartStop

There is an alternative.
Disable the “Return to Start Position on Stop”.
Use the shortcut for play/stop. This will stop to where the cursor is as expected. Then, whenever you need to go back to start position, hit the shortcut for stop. By default it is Num 0. You can even stop using just this shortcut, and if pressed twice it will take you to start.
