Rewind key sometimes doesn't work when project is playing

Hello,

Sometimes the rewind button works just great while the project is playing: I press the NUM (-) key, the project keeps playing while the cursor begins traveling backwards in time; then when I release the NUM (-) key, the project abruptly begins playback from where the cursor was when I released the key. This is the behavior In used to and desire.

However, sometimes when I press the NUM (-) key, nothing happens at all, the cursor doesn’t move, the project keeps playing as if I hadn’t pressed the key.

Can anyone please help me understand why the latter occurs?

Thanks!

Hello -

Some additional observations that unfortunately didn’t help me fix this:

Everything works as expected to me, as per the post above,

Except when the cursor has passed through an active punch in point (red triangle up top). When that is the case, i.e., when the project is playing and the cursor enters into an active Punch In point, Cubase is unresponsive to every QWERTY keyboard key I have tried except for the Space Bar/Stop Bar.

For example, it is unresponsive to NUM(-). Num(+); I can’t mouse click into the Transport Bar to adjust the left and right Locators; etc.

This means I currently have an added keystroke if I want to communicate with Cubase - I have to hit the Space Bar/Stop Bar first. That comes with listening issues as well, when there is a huge gap in the audio playback.

This didn’t use to be this way, IIRC? I couldn’t find a preference to change it.

Any help please, anyone?

Thank you!

Added for additional info: Once the cursor has exited/passed through the Punch Out red triangle, the behavior is “normal and expected”. Thank you again!

Sounds like a bug to me. I can’t imagine any reason/feature behind this behavior of Cubase.

Did anyone else experience this? If yes, on which Cubase version?

I guess no one else has this experience, as in the OP.

I went to check for crash dumps - none there.

Thanks, everyone

Well, the active punch in point means that Cubase starts recording, I mean that is quite literally the meaning of punch in… And when in recording mode, it absolutely makes sense not being able to jump through the project. Simply disable the punch in.

Thanks, @fese !

Well I’m sure that’s it, but really if the track is not record enabled, then, IMO, there’s no need for an active Punch In point to protect anything!

It’s counterproductive in my workflow, where, while setting up takes, I find myself frequently rewinding while the cursor is in the red Punch Zone. It requires my hitting another key (the space bar, or whatever keys are needed to disable the Punch In point) to allow the Rewind and other keys to work in those cases.

I’ve of course been doing one of those as a workaround. I guess I’ll assign a key command to toggle activation of the Punch In point.

Thanks again !
