Rewind

Anyone else checked their Rewind yearly stats?
Apparently, I have a readability level of Stephen King. (Now it says George R.R. Martin.)
Is that good? I’ve not read any of their books.

Checked mine for the first time today when I noticed it in my profile.

Like you, mine says a readability level of George R.R.Martin.

Is that good ? Haven’t a clue

Never read his books but was a fan of the Game Of Thrones series.

They gave me Agatha Christie. Well, I do like the old Miss Marple films.

I got "C.S. Lewis” which now makes me wonder if Dad was right…

I got a rock.

And now you are looking for your Roll? Did I miss something? Has this been a dating site all along? Tzzz…

I had a rough time finding a really authoritative source for reading levels of those famous authors.

While the Google LLM gave me an answer, I had a difficult time validating that - and to the best of my understanding, this kind of question is notorious for LLMs making up :ox: :poop: answers. - So I will refrain from re-posting what it told me.

Is higher reading level or lower reading level better?

That also is a nuanced issue:

  • With lower reading levels, answers become more accessible to more people.
  • With higher reading levels, the answers can become more nuanced and precise.

And reading level formulae are also fraught with issues. See the last 3 paragraphs of the related Wikipedia entry.

Communication is an extremely fraught topic and the entire “Rewind” thing is arguably useless engagement bait, since it pretends to give meaning to some pretty meaningless measurements.

Reading it drew me in like a sugary treat and afterwards left me feeling worse for having wasted a few brain cells and some time.

p.s. Ironically, posting this very message is making the time wasting only worse, but in this case, at least we’re communicating with fellow humans (assuming all of you are not AI answer bots :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:). And I find communicating with fellow humans in good faith is generally more good than bad.

I would go even further and say they didn’t measure anything at all. IMO, these are just random authors assigned to every user. I got George R.R. Martin and never watched a single episode of Games of Thrones.

Hodor! (Whatever that means, I honestly have no clue. However, I thought I stayed in character  Hope it’s a good one and not the village idiot…)

Brilliant, I have just learned that “Hodor” actually IS the village idiot’s catch phrase. Good job, me…

I initially got Aldous Huxley, though when I just went back to it , it said George Orwell, and refreshing it once more switched it to F. Scott Fitzgerald. Refreshing several more times seemed to cycle through those three, albeit not always in the same order.
