Rhythmic Cues in Jazz Drum Part

I see in a 2018 post that it was not possible at that time to add wind rhythmic cues to drum set parts over slashes. Has that changed? I am trying to figure out how to create the screen shot below to a jazz drum part. When I put the slashes in, Dorico won’t then let me enter the rhythmic cues.

Amy help appreciated.

Thanks.

[Edit: useless workaround deleted}

Just add the cue to the drum part

TonH,

Thank you. I will give this a try this evening.

Curious - I don’t have a problem adding cues as normal…

@janus My mistake, I remembered reading some post on the forum where an extra instrument was needed, thought this was the case, tried it, and it worked.

But: as you showed, it works without the workaround too.

Janus.

Once I get the slashes in the measure and try to double click to try to add the cue notes I just get additional slashes in the same measure. It’s like I am stuck in the Repeat Structures and can’t inpiut any notes. I must be doing something wrong.

Just click once on a desired slash location, then open the cue pop up, enter your desired queued instrument. Then you may need to expand the cue length to be as long as desired.

Don’t double-click. Just select the slash(es) where you want the cue to appear and hit shift-U.

Janus when I follow these steps and tell the cues to select the Trombone part, I get the Trombone signpost but the actual notesd don’t appear. Still doing something wrong.

By default, cues are not shown in the Score, only in Parts (look at the drum part and you will see the cue).

If you do want to see cues in the Score change the option in Layout Options>Players>Cues…

Janus,

I completely forgot about that. I was working in the score and not the drum part.

That worked. Now, how can I get rid of the Tbn. text above the cue notes. I thought I could maybe hide the Tbn. using the properties panel, but I don’t see anywhere to hide the cue label.

Thanks.

I also tried going into Engraving Options and selecting “Cues” hoping I could hide the instrument name but can’t seem to do the trick there either.

Thanks.

I would like for the label to be “ens.” but not Tbn.1" How can I cange that cue label?

Select the cue.
Change the Start Text property to just a space…

Janus,

That did it. Thank you so much as usual. It looks perfect. Now I just need to go to my “cheat sheet” document and write all this down so I don’t have to ask again.

Gary

That’s if you want to add melodic cues to unpitched percussion.

Thanks for clarifying, sorry about the noise.
