Rhythmic Position of chords with one dotted note and one dot-less note

Hello,

I do apologize if this has been asked and answered, I have just run into this so many times without my searching finding a good solution.

I too often run into the situation where I have a dotted quarter note in one voice and a note value without a dot in another voice where the notes are so far apart that the dot-less note looks to be at a different rhythmic spot. (see example below)

or, more egregiously, here

Most of the scores I have treat this grouping with the notes close together and the dot moved to either above or to the other side of the second note (see example)

Is there any way to have Dorico do the second option as the default? The current default is far too often too confusing from a reading standpoint, at least for this organist.

Thanks for any that can help!

Hi,

In Engraving options>Notes>Voices, set the default gap between notes in different voices to 0.

While this option is not automatic, you can adjust the voice column indices to force the dotted note to the right. (Behind Bars, p. 57)
