Rit. poco a poco

I am looking for a way to input poco a poco rit. I see the poco in the right panel, but not poco a poco, which I see under dynamics. Should I just use poco rit., hide it, put in text rit. poco a poco, and then adjust the playback to get what I am looking for? Or just use a different dynamic that suggests a gradual slowing of the tempo.

If you input a rit., you can open the lower Properties panel and tick the box that says “Poco a poco”. This will give you “rit. poco a poco”.

If you need the “poco a poco” to come first, then after you input the rit., you can open the Properties panel and just set the Text property to whatever you want.

Thanks. I couldn’t recall how I did it before, which is what you are recommending. Always look in the good ol’ properties panel when in doubt.

I hope we can get an engraving setting soon that “switches” these so one still can use specific pre-made options in the properties pane and in the right-side pane.

Alternatively, you can always use the tempo popover (shift+T) and type it literally, in whichever order you prefer (I’m a poco rit. guy myself). This way it will add it to the score as well as create the necessary tempo automation for playback (same as ticking it in the bottom panel) in a single step, without needing to dig into the panels.

I’m really glad you pointed this one out. Typing is so much easier than figuring out what to select and where to select it!

But poco a poco rit. will not insert the proper text.

Indeed in case where Dorico doesn’t recognise the words used, using the popover doesn’t work, you need to insert the text in the properties panel.

noted. Like I said I’m a poco rit. guy so I was not aware of that. thanks for letting us know - hoping the devs can update that variation!
