Ritard - Gradual Tempo

I am trying to default the Ritard to below the staff. I have indicated in Paragraph options:

Gradual Tempo -

I have changed the gradual style in the properties:

but the Ritard still shows up above the staff:

Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.

I don’t think it’s currently possible to get tempo marks to show up below the staff, except by moving them by hand in Engrave mode.

You can move it in Engrave mode. Otherwise, you could create a dotted Line with hyphenated text (rit) at the start, and if playback is important, use a hidden tempo rit also by setting these properties, or draw in the tempo in Play mode.. Jesper [image] [image]

What would count as gradual tempo mark then? with the Paragraph settings having the option for those to show up below the staff?

Oh, rit is definitely a gradual tempo mark—you can tell if you select it and look at the bottom status bar. It’s just that not all of the properties of the paragraph style are applicable.

It used to be that Dorico used a font style for tempo marks, instead of a paragraph style. Font styles are more limited—for example, you can’t specify a different size in the score and parts; switching to paragraph styles makes that possible. But the nature of a tempo mark object means that it follows some of its own rules, rather than the style’s rules.

If you create a text object and apply that paragraph style, it will look just like a tempo mark but will follow all of the style’s rules—but it won’t affect playback the way a tempo mark does.
