Roland v. Cubase midi notes are different - best strategy

I am using a Roland TD50X to trigger Groove Agent 5 - Simon Phillips. Apparently Roland and Yamaha are using different midi notes. In some cases the default drum kits trigger more than one instrument from a single note, i.e. I hit the kick drum and I hear Kick, cymbal, and tom, when I should only hear a kick.

  1. different notes Roland kick 36/C2 Groove Agent kick C1
  2. multiple notes - were the GA coders so lazy they mapped many notes on purpose? WTF?
  3. Triggering a pad sometimes activates a light above the pad but not always Phillips kits work better than Minniman in terms of light blinks. How can this be?

Is there a table indicating how to translate Roland to Yamaha?

What is the best strategy for mapping midi notes such all the kits align with the trigger instruments? Drum maps and editing a kit are the two obvious solutions. Which is the most effective?

Does Cubase have a global setting to offset the midi notes seemlessly?

The pad layouts in GA seem very random. My 5 toms are spread out over 3 different sets rather than 5 adjacent pads as one would expect. WTF? Is there a way to move pads and group all the toms and cymbals in a logical pattern?

My question is what is the best strategy to make something simple actually simple?

KA

Simply transpose 1 octave. No table is needed.

Seriously? Pretty rude. Do you know them?
