Routing Question

I use in NotePerformer in Dorico. When I switch to “Play View” I see something like this :

Sometimes

  1. the right hand mixer slider output is active - but none of the left mixer inputs (sliders) have any effect.
  2. the right hand mixer output is active - and one of left hand mixer inputs is also active and effects the sound out of NP (So the final output volume is set by both mixer sliders).

If I need to adjust relative volume of the instruments within NotePerformer then I use NotePerformer’s mixer to do that.

Until recently I didn’t care which of these arrangements I saw. But now that I use Cantai VST for vocal parts I often want to alter the volume of the instrumental sound coming out of NotePerformer “en block”. There is no easy way to do that within NotePerformer in case #1 - NP only offers me a slider for every separate instrument- often 20 or more.

So how do we get the preferred arrangement (case #2) where there is an output NP slider in Dorico?

Your option 1 cannot work correctly. NP only returns audio on the first Channel (of each NP instance). So in your example only on Guitar 1.

Ah- But it does! I’ve just tried it.

Here is the project. Start playback and alter the levels on Dorico guitar1 (or indeed 2…4). Nothing changes. I wish it would.

Set this in the Noteperformer mixer.

I don’t know how you got your project into this situation, but guessing you have added and deleted a number of instruments.

If you simply re-apply the NP Playback template, it will behave as expected.

It looks like you’ve manually reassigned some of the channels; you’ve got your guitars assigned to channels 5-8, instead of the expected 1-4. As @Janus suggests, if you reapply the playback template, you’ll see that the Guitar 1 mixer controls the overall volume from NP.

Thank you all for your help.

Now I get sound in guitar 1 :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

The reason for the confusion is that in order to get guitar harmonics I have to enable voice independent playback, and then see so many channels in noteperformer.

I have occasionally tried to rationalise and ended up with no sound at all :dragon_face:so I’m usually I’m too scared to change anything. Sorry.

Sure, that’s exactly what independent voice playback does – each voice in use gets its own channel.
