Running Dorico keep defaulting to Pro

Hi all,

I have Dorico Elements but recently tried Dorico Pro trial version. While I was impressed and is on my wishlist as a new user I felt the extra cost unwarranted at presnt.

However, everytime I now start Dorico it starts with the Pro version rather than Elements. I have deleted the relevant Pro files in the Download Manager and Deactivated it in the Activation Manager yet still, after a reboot, it continues to start as Pro and I have to Deactivate again.

Is there a way to stop this from happening, please?

Thanks

Pro, Elements and SE are all the same program – only the licence decides how it will operate.

So this is a licence issue. You’re sure you’ve de-activated the trial licence, and activated your Elements licence?

@benwiggy is right that this has to do with licensing. But in the meantime, if you hold down the Alt/Opt key when you start Dorico, it should start as Elements instead of Pro.

By default the Steinberg Licensing system will try to use the “best” licence available, for products like Dorico that can run at several levels. To avoid this, launch the Steinberg Activation Manager, open Settings (from the drop-down menu at the top right corner) and turn off “Automatic License Management”.

@benwiggy

Yes, definitely deactivated the Pro trial and activated Elements.

@asherber

As I’m in the middle of an edit I’ll try that later.

@Richard_Lanyon

I’ve done as you’ve suggested and will let you know how that turns out later.

Thanks for the replies.

@asherber

Yes, that works. Thanks.

@Richard_Lanyon

Rerunning Dorico still goes into Pro and I see that Pro has been activated again.

So this is after you went into SAM, deactivated Pro, activated Elements and turned off “Automatic License Management”? In that case could you start up SAM, do “Create Diagnostic Report” and post the report here?
