I also have an SAC 2.2 and haven’t upgraded from Cubase 10 yet.
Hi,
welcome to the forum, Rossie68.
I think we need to tag somebody from Steinberg to make them aware of this thread…maybe this is how it works. So, @Matthias_Quellmann , did you see this thread ? What is Steinberg’s plan regarding this topic ?
There are no plans to bring the SAC legacy support back in Cubase. I didn’t read through the whole thread, but Martin is right to suggest to have a look at the MIDI Remote API in Cubase 12.
Just to provide some perspective:
- The SAC controllers were released in 2000-2001
- By early 2004 they had already stopped providing new driver and firmware updates. I believe it stopped being manufactured around the same time.
- Official support for this controller was dropped in 2013 with Cubase 7.5. Cubase still retained “legacy” support for it, meaning no tech support or bug fixes.
- This legacy support was removed in 2020 with Cubase 11, when the developers began laying the groundwork for the new MIDI Remote API.
So the SAC controller worked natively with Cubase for about 15 years after being discontinued by its manufacturer. I would say that’s a pretty good run. And it’s not like it completely stopped working with Cubase 12 either, you just have to use it like a regular DAW controller now.
The Houston was also discontinued around the same time, but it makes sense to bring back legacy support for it because it was an official Steinberg product that was purchased by many of Nuendo’s early adopters.
Hey Matthias,
thanks for the answer.
I suggest you read through the whole thread, especially from post 22 on. We already discovered that the MIDI Remote API is not an option. There are lots of users who are waiting to getting the support for the SAC back, especially since it was dropped unannounced.
We’ve already covered that kind of reasoning somewhere above, must be around post 12 or something. But thx for your contribution.
Ok. I have read the full thread now. Let me talk to Martin and the dev team and discuss the situation. It’s currently vacation time in Germany, but I will be back with more background as soon as possible.
Great! That sounds like a plan. Thx!
Hi,
Once this would be back in Cubase, I’m quite sure it would be back in Nuendo too.
Hi all,
I have to admit that things like these are very frustrating. Martin has spent a lot of time trying to help people in here because it seemed like there was a higher demand than usual. But actually most of the users that contributed are fake accounts. Someone tried to trick us in order make his requirements more important than others and get our attention, time and resources. It really is frustrating and demotivating to find out that someone is playing you when you are trying to help. It’s also a very selfish and unfair behaviour towards the other users in this forum.
I will close this topic now.
