I have a problem:
A lab at a school runs Cubase 11 (with dongles!) on 16 computers. One of the computers died and the tech people replaced it. I had to reinstall Cubase. Now cubase won’t run because it can’t find the proper e-licensing software. I thought the dongle would serve as the license and I could still run this previously purchased software. Is there any way to get Cubase 11 (with dongle!) to run on a different machine in the post e-license era?! Attached is a screenshot of what Cubase tells me when I try starting it:
I seem to have salvaged the dongle. I copied the eLicenser folder from one of the other computer’s library to the library on the new computer. It seems to be working now! Hopefully I won’t run into other problems.
You should not just copy the software, the better solution is simply to install the latest release from the website
There you find a link to the latest installer package for the eLicenser Control Center.
The easiest way is always to install the eLicenser software via the Download Assistant. All you need to do is to enable the “Optional Runtime Components” in the settings. It is described here
Thanks for the reply, Juergen.
This is good to know! I assumed that since it was discontinued the software for the eLicenser wouldn’t even be available.
With Download Assistant (SDA), each time you launch it the first thing it does is check to see if eLicenser (If installed?), Steinberg Activation, and the Steinberg database server is up to date.
It’ll automatically take care of updating them.
Next, it might check all of your Steinberg Plugins and sound libraries for things like Sonic and Groove Agent, and toss up an option to automatically update them to the latest versions.
When it comes to these 4 elements of SDA, everything ‘should’ remain backwards compatible with older versions of Cubase/Nuendo/Dorico/Sonic, Etc, while also staying up to date with the newest OS versions.
Personally, if I were working with a system still using anything older than Windows 10, or older Intel Macs, going back that far with Dongle based versions of the Steinberg Suite of software, I’d probably skip Download Assistant and manually locate and install things.
That’s just me though. My reasoning is that at some point an older OS might choke with the very latest versions of SDA. I don’t know how far back with OS versions they go with testing before releasing SDA updates.
ONLY if the option in Settings is checked, as @JuergenP said previosly.
