Same bar at end of one flow and beginning of next flow

Hi gang,

I’m doing a medley of two songs that now needs to be split into separate flows. The final bar of Flow 1 is Bar 44:

  • Flow 2 begins with an upbeat to Bar 1 (final beat of Bar 44, Flow 1)
  • There is a key change at Bar 1, Flow 2.
  • I’d really love to have a cautionary key signature on the final barline of Flow 1.

If I put a key change on that final barline of Bar 44, Flow 1, then an extra bar is automatically added to that (a 45th bar). I can easily delete it but it’s added again each time I open the project and so I need to delete it each time I open the project.

One thing I could do is just place the key change pm beat 1 of Bar 44, Flow 1, but it’s not really the most “musical” way to notate it.

Any suggestions for how to handle this, other than just deleting Bar 45 each time? (I should mention that my file needs to go to the client and so I don’t think it’s wise to make them do this if they need to make changes in the future.)

Is there a process I am forgetting about?

(EDIT: Maybe I could keep them as one flow but have a custom page template for the second song to have all the titles/composers/etc)

I think you need to fake an empty bar at the end of flow 1.
(but there may be better solutions)

I’ve used this technique successfully; see if it works in your case.
