Same hand different rhythm

I have 4 8th notes in the right hand, and I want a quarter note on beat 1 and 3 to be played with the same hand (same clef). But if I’m in insert mode, it shifts the whole rhythm instead of playing at the same time, if I’m not in insert mode it changes the value of the 8th note, and if I’m in chord mode, it connects the 8th note to the quarter note but changes the quarter note to two tied 8th notes. help?
