I’ve been trialing dropping samples into Cubase, and I have to say that although I appreciate it is a DAW for recording first and foremost, the limitations with regards to dropping in samples and manipulating them is something that other DAWs are way ahead of!! Using a 120bpm sample doesn’t sync when the template I use is set at the same tempo. BUT using the sample editor (and dropping it straight in without editing) it sets the tempo at the correct BPM. Issues such as key changes, time stretching and tempo seem to be long winded. Using Audacity, a free open source programme, is easier!! Logic Pro also handles samples with ease, as does Acid Music (although Windows only). Is this an area that Steinberg needs to look at to keep up with the competition?
When you open the sample in the ‘lower’ editor, what does the tempo field say?
Hi Kearney,
The sample is titled “Clap Drums 120bpm” and shows in the bottom window as being 120bpm, root note C. It works fine when it is in the bottom window (Sample Editor) however when drag and dropped into the main window it’s out of sync. Being 120-bpm each beat should be on each 1/2 a second, however it slowly slips so that by the 5 or 6 bar it is totally unusable! As mentioned, this doesn’t seem to be an issue with other programmes I use.
Hi,
musical mode must be activated on the track in the project window - please switch the tiny clock icon in the track header into a note symbol by clicking on it. If it is still not working check if Musical Mode is activated on the clip (aka the sample in the project pool > cmd + P to open the project pool).
Hi Reco29,
Have tried this - still no joy. I’m at a loss as to why the tempo is fine in the sample editor & sampler control window but not in the project window.
Can you post a screenshot of your project window including the track with the sample and the transport bar below, please?
