I really like using the Sampler track for drums but I’ve noticed that when I drop samples in from the Media Bay it actually creates a new file within the project audio folder. Is there a way for the sampler to reference the original file instead of creating a new one? I like to audition and swap samples and this is just leads to a lot of unnecessary files being created.

No, it’s not possible to load it without the file in Pool is created.
But you can easily clean the Pool up.
