Sampler track save settings as preset

There needs to be a way in sampler track to load saved settings/snapshot (includes everything!!!) unto a sample. You load a sample, u recall preset, it applies the settings to the sample. I know you can save them as track presets but this just replaces the sample which doesn’t work for me.

While lock parameter settings on sampler track is great, it doesn’t lock every parameter .eg. root key , and also u can’t lock parameters when the sampler track is empty.

and also when you pick “backup project to new folder” it should save the samples in the sampler tracks into the new folder. quite a few things still to do to make sampler track awesome.

I agree 100 percent. btw, I tested this a lot, and I think Cubase has part of this feature in there, but it is kinda bugged. when you use backup project to new folder on a project that has sampler tracks, the backed up project still points to the original sample locations, which sucks, obviously. the weird part is that if you close adn reopen the backed up project (the first time it saves), the sampler track samples suddenly show up in the Media Pool . And once they are visible there, u can go to Media > prepare Archive, and then cubase will finally copy those sampler track samples into the backed up project folder. after that, and only after that, the sampler tracks will point to the new sample locations inside the backed up project folder instead of pointing to the old original locations.

so to me, the main issue is that cubase doesnt add the sampler track files to the media pool right away after creating the backup (I’m pretty sure its a bug). because of that, if you run Prepare Archive immediately after the backup, Cubase thinks there is nothing to collect, and the sampler tracks keep pointing to the old sample locations. but after reopening the backed up project, the sampler files appear in the pool, then Prepare Archive works, the samples get copied into the backup folder, and the sampler tracks finally point to the new local copies.

bottom line, in a perfect scenario, backup project to new folder should already do this automatically. it should collect the sampler track samples right away and make the sampler tracks point to the new copied files inside the backed up project folder, Instead of doing these extra steps. But yeah it is what it is …

Also, same issue happens when I move a normal project folder too (no backup. let’s say you create a project with sampler tracks, save it, and later move the whole project folder somewhere else. even if the samples are inside that project folder, cubase will keep the sampler tracks pointing to the old paths. and here too, the core problem is the same as with backup project to new folder it is not properly registering the sampler track files in the media Pool until the project is reopened. so the trick is basically the same too. I have to open the project once, close and reopen it so the sampler track files show up in the media pool, then save it. after that, when I move the project folder, the sampler track paths update properly to the new location instead of staying stuck on the old paths.

In the same context, creating track archives with sampler tracks is also a big mess. I havent find any way to embed audio samples inside the sampler track itself, like most modern samplers do nowadays, and tbh all samplers should have this feature. if you save a track archive with sampler tracks, you have to be very careful not to move the audio files later, because the sampler paths will break. since track archives are xml, the only way for now is a tool/script that updates the broken sample paths inside the xml. but again, this whole problem can be avoided if cubase added a proper option to embed the audio file directly inside the sampler track.

so yeah, I agree, some work needs to be done to make the sampler track more “modern”.

If, like me, you made some track presets using sampler track, and later the audio files moved on your computer, you probably opened those presets again and lost the sampler settings you wanted to recall right? I tried replacing the missing file manually, but that doesnt restore the saved settings…

the way I manage to repair it is to create a track archive from the broken preset, select that sampler track, then export it as a track archive. it will create an xml file. Open that it, and search for SamplePath, and you will see the old sample path. Change it to the new sample path, assuming you still have the audio file somewhere, then save the xml.

After that, in cubase import the new saved track xml. It will create a new track with the correct sample path, and your ampler track settings will be restored… that is basically for now, until ,hopefully, they implement the feature request.

Unfortunately the Sampler Track currently does not give the user any options to save a copy of the audio file to the project folder when loading samples into it. So every time you use the Sampler Track, you need to remember to do “Media / Prepare Archive” so that Cubase will collect all of the audio files that are being used in your project and it will save a copy into the project folder.

This way you wont lose any audio files if you move them on your hard drives, unless you remove it from the project folder’s “audio” folder.

Yep, that’s what I said. But most importantly, the project needs to be closed and reopened at least once to update the media Pool with the sampler track samples, otherwise prepare Archive won’t work. (until they fix the bug)
