Save project template with custom bracketing (remove automatic bracketing of bass and drums)

I’m trying to create a modestly customized big band template. Most of my customizations seem to stick but though I removed the bracket that spans the bass and drums staves the bracket comes back when I start a new project based on my custom template. (I removed the bracket by deleting it in directly, in Engrave mode.) I found someone else complaining about this on Facebook.

How can I retain this and possibly future custom bracketing choices in my own project templates? I’m using Dorico 6.

Check Preserve existing flows to save the bracketing changes you made.

Did you also search the forum? There are a number of topics on it (I know because I ran into this myself at one point).

@Zalde Thanks! I again saved the file as a template but with that ‘existing flows’ box checked and now new projects indeed open with without drums and bass bracketed together. (I did search the forum before I tried a Google search and found the Facebook group posts on this topic. Must not have chosen the right search terms in my forum searches.)

I see though that if I add a flow from scratch, rather than duplicating the flow I saved with the template, the bracket returns in the new flow. Deleting a bracket isn’t hard, of course, it’s just consternating that I can’t easily save a bracketing configuration as the default for a template.

Yeah unfortunately Dorico disregards certain changes you already made in existing flows when you create a new one. Bracketing changes is one of them, same goes for note spacing and condensing changes. Unless you duplicate a flow you have to reapply all that stuff in each new flow. I hope there’ll be a setting for that someday but currently that’s how Dorico does this.
