Saving an FX chain preset in Cubase 12 or 13 (any version) via inserts takes FOREVER

Simply put, I’ve re-installed both Cubase 12 and 13 (as full administrator for permissions). Have updated all software, running WIndows 10 (latest update).

Everything is supposed to be updated, and yet when I go to save an FX chain preset via clicking on the inserts tab when you open channel settings, it takes approximately 8-9 seconds for the ‘save preset’ menu scan before showing the folder contents. Why does it need to scan each and every single time if it’s already scanned this in Mediabay upon instantiating Cubase???

Why does it take so freaking long to then save the preset? When I then save the preset it takes an additional 9-10 seconds to save.

My Cubase and saves all come from a Samsung 980 pro m.2 nvme ssd. All my content is stored on samsung Pro SSDs.

My computer is an i9-10980XE with 128gb of ram. This shouldn’t be bottlenecking!!

Has anyone else had this issue and found a fix? I’m pulling my hair out on this one. Have trashed prefs multiple times, run disk-check.

I only run Fabfilter, UAD, DMG and Sonbible plugins, all reputable and ‘safe’. Nothing to cause any crash or instabilities.

This has to be something I’ve missed but for the life of me cannot determine why. I feel like Cubase’s mediabay is the culprit but I can’t pinpoint the issue since I feel very out of the loop with what is happening within Cubase (ergo why it needs to scan every freaking time I open a preset menu beats me).

I recall Cubase 10 and earlier Cubase 11 never having this issue. It’s systemic to Cubase 12 and 13 for me. It’s a major QOL issue and I have to believe I’m not the only one here.

Yes I run a large-ish template of 272 tracks. I work full-time as a composer/sound designer for a living, hence the perfect user for Cubase, and yet it would seem that newer Cubase really struggles on this system.

Comparatively, Ableton FLIES past Cubase for any type of file-preset-project saving needs. It feels instant and so responsive compared to Cubase which is laggy, and clunky by contrast. Not in the using of the program itself, but when it comes time to do any saving/menu-diving of any sorts. Cubase feels like I’m using an out-of-shape dinosaur anytime I need to save a preset, be it FX chain presets, track presets, you name it.

Talk about a major workflow killer. Huge PITA.

As an addendum to potential future questions, Yes I have scanned only the user preset folders and content folders I NEED in Mediabay, everything else is disabled so that Mediabay has very specific destinations it needs to be scanning (instead of selecting an entire volume and making it a database etc).

I’ve tested with disk indexing on/off… Makes no difference. It also makes no difference whether I set main volume C: as a volume database.

And YES I’ve added all known exceptions to Windows Defender, I only run Cubase as administrator.

Nothing makes a meaningful difference to the save/scan times I’m experiencing.

Bumping, let’s get more eyes on this.

I’m gonna keep bumping this until a Dev chimes in. I know you guys read these  .
