Scale guides not visible?

I open a new project.

I add a MIDI track with no VST instrument.

I add an empty MIDI Part.

I double click it to open it in Key Editor.

Scale Assistant is configured like this:

Piano roll looks like this:

To see if scale awareness itself is working: If I select “Snap Pitch Editing”, it is indeed C Major and MIDI notes can only be pushed between “white keys.” But somehow I see no “guides.”

What am I missing?

Thank you.

The guides are just the black and gray bars in the editor.. if you mess around with different scales you should see them change. Since you’re in C major, it just shows like it would in default I believe. The notes in key will show up as gray in whatever scale you’re in.

Exactly, as Dtgtrman78 said, use any other key then C-major or A-minor, because the “forbidden” keys equal the black keys in this situation, use any other key and you will see the effect:
C-Major

E-Major:

Ah, okay, thank you.

I tried changing them before but the contrast difference is so little, I didn’t see them.

Is there an easy way to adjust this to a scheme where this is more obvious? Thank you.

(I installed Cubase 15 LE fresh - and opted into the trial after - but this is what it looked like for me from the beginning.)

It’s definitely a little tough to see them!! Go to settings>user interface> general colors>editor colors background and you can lighten it up however you like.

I’m starting to think my color distinction isn’t very good, or maybe it’s affected also by the blue light filter I use…

When I originally looked, these four buttons looked black to me and I was wondering if something was wrong. When rechecking it after you told me, I squinted and saw a difference. I like turquoise-ish scheme, even if the button to me doesn’t seem to resemble it.

At last I can definitely see the guides now!

Thanks!!

Hahaha!! My eyes aren’t what they used to be either!! I’m glad you got it going!!

You might also want to explore setting the Note Colors to indicate the Chords & Scales.

Oh, definitely! Thank you.

That’s so… :scream:
