Scanning VST 3 after updates - wow this is slow

Nuendo 14 on latest Windows 11. This is not a new thing at all. Just very irritating. Everytime I update plugins (softube, PA, Izotope, XLN, etc) it takes a super long time to get Nuendo to launch. What’s going on here. I just did an update and after three hours, Nuendo was still at Scanning VST3 plugins. I nuked it via task manager and started again. It really shouldn’t take over an hour to rescan plugins.

Anyone have a solution?

You can look in this folder:

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Nuendo_64\Nuendo VST3 Cache

for the file vstscannermaster.log
Open it in a text editor and it should show you which was the last scanned plugin and how log it took to scan each plugin.

Thanks Johnny. I also found some info that said to rename the vst3plugins.xml and vst3blocklist.xml. That solved it from hanging for hours.

How many plugins do you have?

I have a lot of plugins. This slowdown only happens after I update the plugins. Something must change that corrupts the vst3plugins.xml and vst3blocklist.xml files. renaming or deleting those forces Nuendo to recreate them and then it works normal. Glad I found that solution.
