Is there a way to change the Playback Options (specifically the swing feel) at a tempo/style change? Or, does this require I make a new flow (even though it’s just a dozen bars with a double time feel within a jazz ballad)?
Hi @jim6 , if you select something at the beginning of the passage and activate the Tempo popover (Shitf+T) and start writing swing, the same rhythmic feel options appear in the popover and you can choose one (and they will appear as signpost). You can, in the same place, set a tempo and it will coexist with the rhythmic feel.
Thanks, pretty sure I tried that - and a human would have interpreted it correctly, but if I changed the playback option - even with only the new part selected, it still made a change to the whole flow playback feel. Anyhow, I decided to just write in the double-time feel rather that actually change tempo. In this case I had the swing feel set at medium 16th note. This way it’s still true so no playback option change required.
Playback Options apply to the whole project.
For enabling swing playback only for specific sections or instruments, you can use the tempo popover as described above - however, you must select a valid rhythmic feel entry, otherwise Dorico won’t interpret the text as a rhythmic feel (ie swing playback) change.
