Hello!
I have perfectly quantized quinttuplets,b ut the score editor doesn’t show it.
And I think it prevents converting DAW to score (importing to Dorico) also, because it doesn’t import quinttuplets.
What should i do?
Thanks
have whole sction of only quinttuplets.
It works on some(if i select each beat and quantize it separately), but on some cases it doesn’t do anything…
What do you mean exactly? Each beat = each note?
I’ve used the “Build N-Tuplet” function multiple times in the past and I’m sure it’s not buggy. You must be doing something wrong.
If you have only quintuplets (please notice “quintuplet” is spelled using only one “t” letter), maybe you could use display quantize presets…
I don’t know:(
I select the event, I go to score editor, I select there everything,
select build n-type tuplet.
In my box, it is written
tyoe:5
over: 2/8
If i hit quantize, it does something, but completely wrong.
And in some cases, if i select for example two beats, it quantizes correctly.
I have no idea what to do.
No!
You have to use Build N-Tuplet for every quintuplet in your score separately.
Make sure not to select any rest after the selected notes.
But in your example you may get unwanted results because your notes are not properly quantized.
Wouldn’t it be nice though to have display quantize presets with quintuplets? Like:
Ok. I undersand now what the problem is. You don’t know to edit MIDI note events so that they align correctly with the tempo track (aka “the grid”).
Here’s how to do this:
-
Set your MIDI track to Linear (in other words, make sure you don’t see a quarter note here).
-
Open the MIDI part in Key Editor (double click the MIDI part in project window). You should see notes displayed like this:
-
These are the tools you’re going to be working with:
- The left tool is Time Warp / Warp Grid. This allows you to move vertical lines (grid lines) to the left or right.
- The tool on the right adjusts the number of lines you see in a measure. “1/8” means that the measure has as many lines as you could fill it with 8th notes (not sure if I’m explaining this right). If you press the “e” button you’ll see that this 1/8 can be divided in any number of so called “tuplets”. For your scenario, you need to select 1/4, and then type “5” in the tuplet box.
- Now you have to adjust every vertical line (grid line) to the notes you played/recorded. You can start with plain 1/4 (without setting the tuplet box to “5”) to mark the first note of every quintuplet.
Note: make sure Score Editor is not open when using the Warp tool. If it is open, the editing process will not be as smooth. Also. make sure to put the MIDI track back in Musical Mode once you’re finished (click the little clock icon to turn it back into a quarter note).
Wow… just wanted to say, super help/explanation post from you there @alin89c .!
Thank you!
I managed to do it!
However, I discovered, that Dorico still doesn’t import quinttuplets.
And I discovered you didn’t pay attention to the correct spelling of “quinttuplet”. C’est la vie… Anyway, good luck with Dorico.
I am sorry, I did not mean to be rude.
Thank You for your time and replying for my messagge and teaching
me and others as well.
Thank you for all the advice. I quantized it correctly and found a way to import quintuplets to Dorico. Instead of exporting it to MIDI, I just had to go to Score Editor and export the passagge to MusicXML.
