Hello,
I have been using Cubase for years and was perfectly satisfied with it. However, version 14 is, for me, unusable.
The score editor is my tool of choice for refining my compositions.
Yet, in the score editor’s toolbar, all the functions that used to exist both in the key editor and the score editor have disappeared — such as transposing a note up or down by a semitone or an octave, moving a note forward or backward based on the grid resolution, and many others.
Who, within your team, is making these disastrous decisions?
It might be helpful to actually ask composers which features they use.
This isn’t an update — it’s a catastrophic regression.
I believe it would be wise to reinstall these features or at least make them accessible to those who need them.
Best regards.
Bonjour.
Cordialement.
Apparently, the old Score editor was the product of just one developer, who has since departed ways.
So the new Score editor is built from scratch using Dorico as the base.
Or something like that.
In the meantime, your C14 licence will allow full running of C13 on the same machine for example.
The brand new score editor in C14 is only 8 months old and will evolve and improve going forward. The previous version in C13 had enjoyed a level of development progress, spanning some 30+ years… Just saying.
I think everybody who uses the score editor would like to see more and better controls/shortcuts/etc, that is certainly a weak point at the moment in general. But this is really a version “1.0” of the new score editor as others have explained, and they are adding more functionality all the time.
The new score editor is based on Dorico which was a mature piece of software independent of Cubase that was not necessarily designed with Cubase integration as a top priority from the outset. It took them a few years of work to just get Dorico working in Cubase. Now that they have gotten it working, and the hard part is done, we can look forward to enhancements.
We’ve tried to make the new Score Editor more accessible and easier to use. In order to achieve that (aside from the massive technology change under the hood), we tidied up the toolbars, and tried to achieve consistent editing behaviour with the rest of Cubase, but also with Dorico where applicable.
There is one notable change, which you may have stumbled over. You should find that moving or transposing notes does in fact still work, but it now uses the key commands in the Nudge category, which also means that the plain arrow keys default to Navigate, changing the selection.
