Score Editor - Keep on Screen?

Hi all,

I use the score editor a lot. If I’m working on a piece and need to record the parts, I like to follow along with the notation so I don’t have to memorize anything. It also helps me line up any rhythmic issues I have and check for pitch discrepancies.

However…it keeps disappearing! I’ll open it up either in another window or in the bottom zone, but when I undo my take, it disappears. Example; I’ll have a synth part written out on a virtual instrument track, but I want to record on another MIDI/VI track or a live audio instrument while looking at the synth part so I know what notes to play. I have it in the score editor, then I click on the track(s) to record on and it’s fine. But, if I undo my take because I messed it up, it closes the score editor. I can record a video and post it if that’s easier.

How do I lock it like how it works in Cakewalk/Sonar? I’m on Cubase Pro 13 on a Windows PC, but it also does the same thing when I work the desktop Mac at my other studio or my MacBook Pro.

Thanks!

Nothing, huh?

If there is no content in the editor it will close, so maybe put a single note somewhere unobtrusive before recording so undoing doesn’t delete all the content in the editor

For what it’s worth, the Score Editor in Cubase 14 allows to show empty parts, and will therefor not close.

Maybe I should upgrade, then.
I’m also getting this issue…where I’m just seeing rests (see “The Grandeur”).

Does 14 fix this? Why is this even an issue? I must be doing something wrong because I never had these issues with any of the other DAWs I’ve been using since 1993.

[I know there’s bad voice-leading in the strings and a very weak chord progression; I’m fixing this for a client, haha]

You will find the Score Editor in Cubase 14 to be different in many aspects. It’s built on the technology that also powers Dorico. Give the trial version a go to see how it fits your workflow.
