Score Layout Question

I have created a score for Concert Band that now looks like I would like it to look. However, I want to create a layout that is now 9"X 12" (Concert Size) rather than 8.5"X11" (letter Size). I want the two scores to look the same excepot for the page size. But when I create a new layout in Setup mode and name it “Title” Concert Size, all the condensing , space sizing, etc. seems to go out the window and the new score looks horrible. Should I have right-clicked my original 8.5X11 score and selected “Propagate Part Formatting” to create the new larger page size instead of just selecting “Add Full Score Layout” at the bottom of the layouts panel? My desire is to have two layouts that are carbon copies of one another except for the page size (and one would hope the sizing of the notes and other symbols would be very slightly larger in the new score as a result of making the page larger).

Any help would be appreciated fine folks.

Try right-clicking on your score layout and choosing “Duplicate Layout”.

That did much better. Now, would I then need to go in to actually make the new score characters slightly bigger for the larger page size, or will Dorico automatically increase everything to fit the larger size?

Thanks asherber as usual.

Someone else may have a better workflow for this; it’s not something I’ve had to do myself.

My first thought would be to lock the layout in the new score before changing anything; that should freeze all of your systems in place. (Based on your comment that you want the two scores to look the same.) Then you’ll probably want to make slightly larger margins and a slightly larger space size, to sit better on the page.

Check out your Paragraph Styles (library menu) settings. If font size is Absolute, it won’t change. If it is Relative, it will get bigger if the space size increases.

This is very helpful information. Thank you both for your time and excellent thoughts.
