I am working on an orchestral score, and the first trumpet part is labeled 2nd, while the second trumpet part is labeled 1st. However, the parts are labeled correctly. How do I change the score to be correct? I have no idea how this happened.
You’re not giving a lot of details so I’m not sure what exactly you’re seeing, but I’ll try my best guess.
In the full score, is Trumpet 2 listed above Trumpet 1? In that case, I’d first check the player order in Setup mode. If Tpt 2 is above Tpt 1 there, you can drag it below Tpt 1 to restore the order.
If the order in Setup mode is correct but it’s different in the full score layout, check Layout options>Players with the full score layout selected. If Use custom player order is checked, uncheck that.
If none of those things solve it, you may want to upload (a cut down version of) your project.
No in the score the parts are correctly ordered but the name of the instrument is incorrect. Though the part is correct for the trumpet 1, it is labeled trumpet 2. and the trumpet 2 part is labeled trumpet 1 though it is the correct part written as the 2nd trumpet part.
It’s hard to tell without the actual project file, but could it be that you inadvertedly switched Tpt 1 and 2 before starting note entry, and only noticed it later? Perhaps other forum members will have better ideas about this.
As for how to solve it, I’d still start by checking Setup mode. If the order is wrong there too, switch them. Then go back to Write mode, select all content of the Tpt 1 and 2 staves and use Edit>Paste special>Swap to swap the content of both staves.
Well, I must be dumb, because I can’t get the names to change the Parts are right, but Trpt 1 has trpt 2 music and trpt 2 has trpt 1 music. Attached is the first page of the score in Dorico so you can see my dilema.

You have player 1 holding instrument 2
If you swap the instruments in Setup mode, the score has the instrument labels in the expected order
Having sorted out the labels, if you still think the lines are wrong, you can swap the notes: Select the 1st bar in both trumpets; select to end of flow; right-click>paste special>swap.
Thanks, both ideas were successful. Don’t know how it happened…I am a Finale refugee and am still trying to learn Dorico! Thanks again!
If the instruments have the correct music but the wrong instrument number, see here:
