Score problem with moving notes

Quantize is set to 1/8.
When I select bar 24 and press cntrl- left arrow this happens:

Cubase score problem
And when i press cntrl- right arrow to get back to the original nothing happens. Notes stay where they are.
What am I missing ?

Hi,

Please, inspect all the nudge Key Commands. It’s easier to observe them in the Key Editor, where you don’t have the Display Quantize involved.

I believe, what you are searching for of Alt + Arrow doing.

They are linked to the grid, which is set to 8ths.

Alt + Arrow left does nothing. Alt + Arrow up produces a chord of the 3 notes.

What do you want to achieve?
Tell us that, and:
Deselect the notes and select one and tell us what it looks like then.

Hi,

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Arrow Left/Right moves the note left/right
  • Alt + Arrow Left/Right extends the note left/right
  • Alt + Shift + Arrow Left/Right shortens the note left/right

As I mentioned, in the Score Editor, the Display Quantize is involved, therefore the observation might be harder.

Yes, this works in the key editor, but not in the score editor.
Ctrl+ Arrow Left works like this:
cntrl left

Ctrl+ Arrow Right does this:
cntrl right

Alt + Arrow Right does this:
alt right
Alt + Arrow Left does nothing.

DQ is off.

Is the timebase for the track set to Musical Mode rather than Linear Mode? I recall that one of the previous files you sent me had the timebase set to Linear which caused some unexpected problems.

No. All tracks are set to linear mode. Im working on a filmscore.

Ok, well try temporarily changing this track to Musical Mode to see if that fixes it, as that will allow us to work out whether this is the issue.

This may be a typo? If you’re working on a film score your tracks are likely set in musical mode (the little notehead rather then the clock symbol).

Linear mode in a film scoring context would usually be reserved for things like the video and dialogue tracks.

It doesn’t work properly in musical mode either. There seems to be a problem if more than one note is selected.
Cntrl left seems to work ok.
Cntrl right does this:
cntrl right musmode

Alt right works as expected (although it looks messy.. - voices I guess)
Alt left does nothing.
Alt shift left expands the notes to the right, so does alt shift right.

No. In musical mode the events change position if the tempo changes.
Unless I’m mistaken..?

Hi,

It’s not Musical Mode, it’s Musical Timebase. Musical Mode is for the Audio Eents only.

  • If the track is in the Musical Timebase, when you change the tempo, the Events remain on their Bars+Beats position and change the Time (so it remains musically).

  • If the track is in the Linear Timebase, when you change the tempo, the Events remain on their Time and change the Bars+Beats position (so it remains time-wise).

Could you share a cut-down version of the actual project file itself? I’ve not been able to reproduce this problem with a simple example so far.

As an aside, there are cases where Alt+Right arrow doesn’t work correctly with more than one note selected, which will be fixed in an upcoming patch release. That fix won’t have any impact on the Ctrl+Right arrow behaviour though.

Sure
