Score Spacing

Heartbreak.dorico (3.5 MB)

Hi,

I’m having trouble changing the size and spacing of my score in page view, so I can print. I’ve tried vertical spacing, but that doesn’t seem to work. This was imported from Finale as an xml if that makes a difference.

Another question is how can I manually move the instrument name, title, and composer?

Thanks for your help!

Jon

Your space size (i.e., the size of your staves) is too large for that many players on that size paper.

Try changing Layout Options > Page Setup > Space Size to Rastral size 6 or even 7. (Or smaller – even at Rastral 7, Dorico thinks your pages are slightly too full.) And you can change the staff-to-staff gap setting back to 6 spaces; telling Dorico to put more space between staves doesn’t help when there isn’t enough space on the page to do so.

Also, you have manual system breaks on all your pages, probably from the XML import. In Engrave mode, press the Reset Layout button on the left to remove them all and let Dorico reflow the music. (You can also change your import Preferences so that system breaks are not preserved while importing.)

In Engrave mode, all of these red triangles indicate that you have manually edited pages, which should generally be avoided in Dorico.

So the first thing you should do is right click there and choose Remove All Page Overrides.

It looks like you wanted to get rid of the “Flow 1” flow heading. You can do this in Layout Options > Page Setup > Flows > Show flow heading.

If you want to change the page header info, or change the way the title etc. are displayed, you can do this by editing the page templates, in the right-hand panel. Note that there are two page template sets, one for score layouts and one for part layouts, and that each template has both a left hand and a right hand component; make sure that your changes are reflected on both LH and RH.

This is so helpful. Is there a way to click and drag the title, instrument name, composer on each part.

Thank you!

Jon

You don’t want to drag them on each part – you want to drag them on the First page template for the parts, and then all parts will pick up the change automatically.
