Hello, I’m trying to write a cello part that looks like the attached (hand written). But I only manage to write it like the second attachment (from Dorico elements).
I find it incredibly hard! Any help on how to achieve that?
I tried to move the Eb note in the correct position, but it won’t go there! It goes where it shows on the last two screenshots: either too late (the 1st), or too early (the 2nd). It’s kind of irritating to be honest.
You need 3 voices.
First enter your top line.
Create a new voice, engage force duration (o) and enter your G minim and the dotted crotchet. Select the minim again and tie (T) - the forced duration should keep the note durations correct.
Create a new voice and enter your quaver C.
[edit: I forgot. Select the quaver, go to Engrave mode and set the voice column index property to 0]
Select the rests that appear (use ctrl-click) and Edit>Remove Rests.
Select the quaver C and the tied G. Add the arp sign shift-o arp
Hi Janus,
it’t too advanced for me, attached i
s what I managed to do. How do you create a new voice? How do you make a dotted crotchet tied to the minim? How do I make the 16 notes 32 notes?
Thanks,
Stef
I managed to make the 32 notes. But no luck in inserting the new voice quaver.
Screenshot attached. Once I succeed, how can I copy and paste only the rhythmical pattern to the following bars? I’m almost there.
I can’t insert new notes. I click on “start note imput”, then Shift+V, and I end up with the attached image. I then tried to drag the quaver but nothing, then I tried to simply click on the stuff to make the note, again nothing!
Do not drag it! As my edit said above, go to engrave mode, open the lower properties panel and set the Voice Index to 0. This will align the stem with with the G above.
Also I said to use force duration on the G before you make the Tie. That is the only way to get a dotted crotchet at the end of the tie (because it is followed by a rest).
I managed to do almost all. How can I make a dotted crotched in stead of a crotched tied to a quaver? I used forced duration, but that just makes a dotted minim (2nd screenshot).
As I said originally. Engage force duration before you enter the notes.
From what you have now. Select the tied note. Make sure force duration is on (the vice icon on the left should be blue) and hit 7 to create a minim. Then hit R to repeat (you will have 2 minims with the 2nd selected). Then double hit 6 (or use 6 dot) to create the dotted crotchet. Finally select the remaining minim and hit T (tie).
How can I ever remember all those numbers? I simply made a new minim G, then I tried to make a dotted crotchet G (screenshot attached), but the software continues to write two quavers! In all tutorials, when the guy uses the dotted crotchet the software writes them, why not in my case?
Turn it on. Then hit 6 (which turns it into a crotchet) followed by dot. And you should get a dotted crotchet. (The reason Dorico wants to use the crotchet tied to a quaver notation is because of he following rest)
The numbers set the note duration (5=quaver, 6=crotchet, 7=minim etc.) and the dot adds a dot (or you can double tap the number to make the note dotted).
