I just started using Scoring Express Jazz for Dorico, and I notice that when I create a project using the lead sheet template, it only creates a layout for the full score, but not one for the player. Is that intentional, and is there an easy way to add a layout for the single existing player? My specific case is I wanted to add a player to use for rhythmic cues on the lead sheet, but when I add the player I only get layouts for the new player and the full score, when what I want is a layout for the original player displaying the cues.
You can go to Setup > Create Default Part Layouts to add part layouts for all players in the project.
It is indeed intentional that the Lead Sheet templates only produce a single layout - many Dorico users over the years have been puzzled by the fact that when creating a new project with a single player, Dorico creates two layouts - and when creating these templates we didn’t envisage the use case you’re suggesting. One does see this sort of thing all the time in the Real Books, but I’m pretty sure you’re the first Scoring Express customer that’s mentioned this oversight!
Daniel’s absolutely right to mention Setup > Create Default Part Layouts, but you need to know that these part layouts will use the default Layout Options, which may or may not match the Scoring Express templates. I’ve hastily (sorry!) put together a quick video to talk you through pulling the settings from the template into your new part layout(s):
Thank you both for all of that great info! I will try those suggestions later today and report back on how it goes.
That worked! In addition I had to figure out how to show rhythmic cues, which took a few minutes but was well explained in the documentation. Thanks again - I’m loving both Dorico and the SE templates, and your responsiveness to questions is totally awesome!
