I’ve been getting these annoying scratchy high pitched noises during playback. Does anybody know what it is and what can be done to get rid of it?
What audio interface are you using?
What interface, what buffer size, what computer and spec, project size, plugins?
Could be buffer size is too low. If a pc then has it been optimised for audio? Laptop again has it been optimised for audio (especially power saving options)
I’m not a Mac user so others can help with that.
It’s a Steinberg UR22 mkII
The computer is a Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p | i7-4770 | 16 GB | 500 GB SSD
I’ll look into the buffer size and project size later
I listened to your audio file. Sounds weird (and kinda cool). I’m afraid I’m not sure what would cause such artifacts nor exactly what they are.
I believe some testing is in order. To me it sounds like the artifacts are only on the piano part and does not affect the other channels. Is this correct? Do you experience these anomalies with only one instrument/channel?
Could it be a plugin’s demo mode?
I think you’re right about some testing being a good next step. I’m actually not sure if it occurs only on some or just one channel.
Would that be something I could change in settings somewhere do you think? I’m not using a free demo version or anything
I tried looking into the buffer size but I’m struggling a bit. I get the windows below
Where do I go from there?
From the asio driver menu choose the right driver. You are still choosing the wrong one. There should be one in the list with your interface name on it.
I’m confused. Forgive my ignorance but why is the driver I’m choosing the wrong one? I’m using a Steinberg audio interface so shouldn’t the Steinberg driver be chosen?
The UR22 has a dedicated ASIO driver, but it is not preset in your list of drivers. Therefore it is not installed yet.
Currently you are using a general driver that is to be used if an audio interface does not have a dedicated one.
You can download the driver from the download section of the support pages of steinberg.net
That did the trick. Thanks ![]()
