I would really love to have scipted looping (MIDI and Audio) in VST Live like is intuitively possible with LoopToGo or with some tweaks also with DAWs.
Here is a demo of LoopToGo to see what I mean:
Predefined sections in a track where record is automatically turned on and off and later predefined sections where this recording is automatically copied into.
Or is there already some workaround to do this?
You can automate recording as well as loop selection/exit if that’s what you need?
Only partly I think.
- automate recording: this solves the problem of predefining a section/time window within a track where record should be turned on at the start and off at the end automatically
- loop selection/exit: not sure what you mean. in automation tracks, I dont find these options. I only found the option to associate “Exit loop” and “Flexloop” (on/off) to a MIDI command (under Devices → Actions and Shortcuts) and then automating this with a midi track. However, this is not what I need. The requested functionality cannot be realized with the flexloop or cycle functions I think, because the track should move on after recording (i.e. other tracks should not loop/repeat). moreover, I don’t need to just repeat the snipped I recorded but to flexibly predefine where it will appear again, i.e. repeat it twice after recording (while the track is moving on and other tracks are doing other non-repeating things) and then not show it for a while and then present it again later.
So I am thinking of drawing an empty record container on a track (this one switches record on and off and contains a predefined identifier for the recorded audio) and also drawing audio containers later on the track that can be linked to this record container identifier such that they will automatically contain the same audio material then the record container after recording. I think the tiny video I posted initially makes it really clear.
Do you think, this can be implemented?
Take a look at “Automation Track” and what you can program with it.
I did, but:
in automation tracks, I dont find these options
As explained, they only help me recording automatically but not predefining repeat containers (independent of other tracks).
Let me try to summarize/clarify.
What you want to do is:
- record MIDI/audio at a given time
- copy that recording automatically to predefined placeholders in your song/project.
That’s really a nice idea, but nothing that can be implemented easily (and on short notice), I’m afraid.
Yes, that’s correct. Except that the “scope” of the placeholders doesnt need to be the whole song/project. References restricted to be within the same track would totally suffice.
Do you think this could be added to the agenda of future releases? I would be super happy and I think this would open up a new world for fully flexible hands-free live-looping shows!
