Scroll Bar Size

The scroll bar at the bottom of the screen is very small, and the part you grab to scroll (whatever you call that) is almost the same color as the rest of the scroll bar. Working on a laptop is a little challenging.

Is there a way to make the scroll bar larger?

I am aware that this is a Windows function and not a Dorico function–although I seem to imagine that the bar is smaller with Dorico 6–but maybe someone knows a trick.

Thanks.

No, there is no way for a user to change the size of the scrollbar.

OK, thanks. Not the worst problem in the world, but in an orchestral piece, I do a lot of scrolling. I’m not like Mozart–just think up the final version with no changes. Everything I do takes 100 passes.

Not only is the scroll bar’s thumb too small (2 pixels!), it is low contrast.

Against the neighboring white music, I always have difficulty seeing it.

Yes, the thumb does get bigger on mouse over (6 pixels), but the contrast is equally as horrible (dark gray on light gray).

Note that on both Windows and macOS, I have scroll bars set to show always, which I find more mouse friendly.

Hi @Molanda, something is not normal in your screenshot. Here is how the scroll bar looks on my iMac 27" (with Dark Theme):

Hi @konradh, when I don’t use the Magic Trackpad (to scroll rapidly just with a three finger gesture) I often use the shortcuts for Move view right/Left/Up/Down:

@Christian_R I’m on Windows, so I don’t know if that is the difference.

This is what the mouse over looks like. The size is ok but the contrast is bad.

I switched from dark mode to light mode solely to see the scroll bars more clearly.

If you’re using a mouse, you can also hold Shift and then use the mouse wheel to scroll horizontally. This works in many other apps too.

True, but for those accustomed to using the scroll bars, it would be nice if they were easier to find and use. This appears to be a Windows “improvement” from Microsoft.

This is ridiculously bad Windows “feature.”

It’s pretty bad on Mac too. I think both OSes have made the decision to diminish scroll bars which is fine for general web browsing with a scroll wheel or trackpad, but it can be really frustrating with complex audio software that has a lot of various panels. Drives me nuts in Cubase as well, but alas it’s not really anything Steinberg can control since it’s at the OS-level.
