I’m regretting upgrading from Dorico 3 to 5 due to a new bug that’s a game breaker for me.
The way that Noteperformer works, after you’ve added enough instruments to it, it will create a new channel (instrument?) in the routing section under the play tab and add the new instruments to the new one that it’s created.
This hasn’t been a problem in the past, but as it stands now, once the second noteperformer channel has been created, Dorico seems to think this is an instance of DoricoBeep rather than Noteperformer and either nothing plays or it will play woodblock type percussion to the rhythm of the track for the instrument that’s been added to this second noteperformer channel.
If you open up the settings for noteperformer, it shows the settings for DoricoBeep instead, so it seems to be getting confused.
I’ve attached a screenshot of this instrument settings opening up the dorico beep settings and pre-emptively uploaded a diagnostic.
I do love Dorico, so I hope that this is something that will be able to be easily resolved. Thanks so much for the assistance.
Welcome to the forum @jaedaen and sorry for the trouble.
Indeed Dorico is completely confused here, even more than you think it does. Looking at the logs, the audio engine has 2 DoricoBeep instances and over 30 (yes, 30) NotePerformer instances. So this is all completely wrong.
What if you go to the VST & MIDI tab (on the left side of the Play mode), how many instruments instances are listed there with you?
Actually, could you please send me that project file to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de? I guarantee full confidentiality.
And what if you do from the menu Play > Playback Template and then reapply the Noteperformer template, does that heal the playback with you. If not, post also a fresh diagnostics please. Thanks a lot
I’ve seen this problem before, and I’m afraid it’s a regression introduced in Dorico 5.1.50. It will be fixed in the next update, when it comes. I’m sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.
I think you should find that re-applying the playback template fixes the problem temporarily, but you might encounter it again when you subsequently add further new players to the project that require Dorico to load another instance of NotePerformer.
@dspreadbury I have downloaded the update and I still have instruments forcing to Dorico Beep and I’m unable to fix them. I tried switching playback templates then going back to NotePerformer but the issue persists. Is there a workaround?
Hi @dspreadbury ! I started a new file and that resolved it. The file I created between the two newer updates is broken but I didn’t have too much in it yet so I tried starting from scratch in a new file and that one is fine. The file created between the two updates is still broken if you would like it anyway to look at but I’m all set so no need to do it on my account anymore
(@Derrek i did indeed update, the file created in the gap stayed messed up but newer files are fine)
