Second Voice Triplet doesn't turn off correctly

I have run into a very strange behavior (undocumented feature, maybe?) When inputing a second voice (1 downward)/Alto for a specific measure after entering the voice triplet, you issue the shift-: command to turn off, but Dorico populates the next measure. You would think “no big deal” since you can light all the rests and remove them with Option-shift-R? Right? Ah-ha, no you cannot. You are able to remove the quarter rests, but not the triplet resets. Please see the example. I am also attaching the dorico file.

I restarted the Dorico program and used the default settings from Dorico (instead of my own template thinking that may be the problem) to make sure all things are standard.

I’m hoping it is something simple that I have missed or have I discovered a small little bug?

Thanks for any thoughts or assistance.

It looks like you started your triplet notation with the quarter note duration selected in the left toolbar. This makes Dorico start a triplet of three quarter notes in the space of two quarter notes, which is the same as two eighth note triplets over those two beats. So those two triplets, which look separate, are part of the same piece of notation to Dorico.

If you want a single eighth note triplet, even if the first note in the triplet is a quarter note, then you need to either start the triplet with the eighth note duration selected, or explicitly indicate a 3:2e triplet.

Edit: You can see how Dorico thinks about this by selecting both tuplets (notes, rests, and tuplets) and using Alt/Opt+right arrow to slide them to the right; once all the notes and rests are in the same measure, Dorico shows them as a single tuplet.

Just to add. That tuplet is actually a single tuplet that spans the barline (not two) .

Edit: a simpler way to see this is just select the tuplet and change this property…

Sorry @asherber !

Yes, thanks, good point.

Thank you. It was a duh! moment for me. I really never thought Dorico would handle it that way, but it makes sense. Again Thanks. My issue is now fixed.
