Seeking advice about creating a percussion map for Jazz Anthology Drums

I’m trying to create my first percussion map. It’s for Authentic Soundware’s Jazz Anthology Drums.

I made a copy of Dorico’s General MIDI drum expression map, and have been modifying that. I’ve been able to figure out a number of the more straightforward modifications, but I don’t know how to create Playback Techniques that aren’t in the Playback Technique Combinations menu.

I’m also confused about which instruments to choose, in a number of instances. Authentic soundware uses a number of different naming conventions for a lot of the more standard drums.

I’ve attached the PDF map that came with Jazz Anthology Drums, as well as an exported version of my expression map in progress (everything higher than MIDI 46 is still showing whatever is in the original General MIDI percussion map.)

I’m also unsure how to handle things like ‘Round Robin Reset Key’ brushes with snares on and off, Combos, and some of the other items that don’t seem to have equivalents in the General MIDI map as well as in Dorico’s Instruments and Playback Techniques Combinations. Also unsure about what I should do with an Expression map to complement the percussion map.

I would appreciate any guidance.

You can probably do the round robin reset key in the expression map as an add-on technique, since it is probably independent of the rest. I’ve never tried this but it would probably work.

Usually you want to minimize what is in the expression map and put as much as you can in the percussion map. The original idea was that expression maps would not be used at all for unpitched percussion instruments (and only percussion maps would), but percussion maps would have to have their functionality expanded for that to be viable. At a minimum the expression map will need to configure the dynamic controller being used, which might be different for things like rolls (which might use the modwheel CC1 or something similar since they can be made louder or quieter during the roll).
