Seeking help: objects (lines) moving when entering print mode

Hi,

From what I can tell, there seems to be a bug in Dorico that moves my objects around when entering print mode. Specifically on page 13, 14, 15 and 16, the lines I have created for box notation and other default lines (here used for durations) are being scrambled vertically.

Attaching both the current wip score as well as a picture showing how things get messed up when I enter print mode.

It would be great if anyone could let me know what the issue is, and how to solve it! Or even better, if there is an alternate and less finicky solution, such as creating multi-note trills, that would be fantastic.

Thanks!

Anders

Not an answer to your question, As far as I can see, they are off also in write mode. I would create several lines with the note in parentheses included as a center annotation with a music symbol, so that the Line and the note is one object.

Yes, that’s the issue. When entering they get moved in print mode, they are also moved in all modes, including write and engrave.

Thanks,

This heavily reduce the amount of objects, and thus the adjusting work for symbols for the future. Not to say it also makes the score more clean overall. I will try to implement it in this piece, just in case it makes a difference for the issue.

I’m sure it will. Also, make sure to adjust Line positions/lengths in Write mode as much as possible. You can set the grid to 32s and use opt+cmd+arrows for position, and opt+shift+arrows for length. The same goes for Playing techniques. Engrave mode adjustments should be a last resort. You also have page overrides on every page. Editing the page template is usually better.

Let me know if you need help with the lines.

I have a bunch of different ones saved as default.

Thanks Jesele!

I tried implementing it into the score, and while it didn’t solve the issue, it made the score a whole deal cleaner.

I did find a workaround though. The bug seems to be that the lines get resorted for what is over/under when entering print mode when starting on the same beat, so I was able to force/«trick» Dorico to give me my preferred order by changing when it appears, and then concealing that in engrave mode. Not ideal, but it works at least for now.

Since you are so kind to help out with the lines; it is a minor thing, but do you know a way to rearrange the order of when they appear in the menu? Now they are a bit scrambled with the others. Changing their names so that they line up alphabetically seems to make a difference, but some of the lines refuse to have their names changed.

Not possible, I’m afraid.

I’m curious about your solution, care to pm me the file? If not, that’s ok too.
Perhaps, turning off avoid collition for the lines (on by default) would help. And resetting the position.

Sure! I’m out for a rehearsal now, but will send you the file when I get back to my office:)

Also; interesting ideas. Havn’t tried to toggle off the line collisions.

Anders

Great, also found that you are resizing all the lines to 200%. Would be better to change the line thickness in the Line Body editor, I think.

Jesper

Just a small test.

Jesper

Avoid collition off for the boxes. Lines shortened in write mode if overlapped.
