Are the enharmonic choices under the D# chords below normal? After respelling automatically, the same note is being expressed in two different ways in the same measure. It could be because of the contour, but I’m used to seeing this only in scale-wise lines. I’m also seeing placement of an accidental that requires it to be undone in the next note. For example. A-Bb-Bnat instead of A-A#-B. And I recall seeing a shape being obfuscated like D-Db-D instead of D-C#-D. In any case, are there any options available to control the choices here?
Hi @Steve_225, I obtain different results (with no chord symbols) so not sure what is happening in your Project:
- in Flow 1 you see the result of a live MIDI recording with factory settings
- in Flow 2 you see the result of step input (Note Input with MIDI keyboard), after deactivating the Notation Option Additionally prefer naturals (which seems to work, although the key signature is defined as B major):
What was your result before respelling automatically?
The notes before respelling automatically were better (did not have two spellings in the same measure). And respelling the score has a different result than respelling the part. Respelling the score yields flats whereas respelling the part yields naturals. There may be too many variables here to figure out what’s going on. Shall I assume that other than the one option you specified that there are no other options to supply preferences to Dorico regarding enharmonics?
Have you tried respelling using the shift-I popover?
Select your passage and do shift-I spell B M to respell everything it can into B Major (everything out of scale will be untouched).
Yikes! That note tools popover is packed with goodies! Thanks @Janus and @Christian_R for pointing out a hrair of tools and techniques that should help. I’ll research these further. And it just struck me too that I’m working with an adaptation of the sheet music for “Goldfinger,” a song that seems to defy any particular key signature!
