Everytime I make a shift-X text, when I’m ready, Dorico gets to a “select”-mode, producing a select window. I then have to click somewhere, and then unselect what I unwantedly selected. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
I use ESC. On a Mac, you can also use Cmd + Return. Perhaps Ctrl + Return on Windows.

These are specified in the manual, although they’re easy to overlook (last step).
Sorry, my English is bad. This happens AFTER using the text-input (shift-X). I’m ready and want to proceed, and than the select-rectangle appears without me asking for it. Esc doesn’t work, but the select-rectangle shouldn’t be there in the first place. Is this a bug? Or should I change something in the settings. It’s of no use, so I think it’s a bug.
So you’re seeing some kind of select rectangle after Shift+X, but before entering text?
No, after I’m ready. The text is there, on the right spot, no complaints. But then there is that kind of a select-rectangle (the one you get when you select by click&drag, I don’t know how to explain: it gets bigger and smaller, you “draw” a rectangle and everything in it will get selected), and I can’t undo it. I just have to select something (by drawing the rectangle) and then deselect it again. Nothing really happens, but it takes some time and happens every time. I find it hard to believe I’m the only one with this experience. I had it on two different MacBooks, Os’s and Dorico 5 ánd now 6.
I got this behaviour as well. Hitting „Enter“ after text entry makes the cursor a selecting tool as if the mouse button was pressed. I think I can avoid this by hitting „Esc“ after text entry (not at the computer right now). That has annoyed me quite a few times too.
I get this as well: I put in the text, hit Esc, at which point the cursor starts to draw a box whichever way I move it. Hitting Esc again makes the box disappear, but not the behaviour - if I move the cursor, it happens again. I have to click the mouse to make the behaviour stop. See screen shot - this is after hitting Esc:
YES! Thanks! This is exactly what I mean! So it’s a bug after all. It was already in Dorico 5.
I was back at the computer in the meantime and tried it out: I can avoid this behavior by exiting text input with esc instead of pressing Enter beforehand.
FWIW, I don’t see this: when I press Escape, the text is selected. Perhaps there’s some other factor at play.
I have occasionally gotten that select box when I wasn’t expecting it, but not in any way that’s repeatable (and not tied to text boxes, for me). I assumed it was some odd combination of keypresses that made Dorico think the mouse button was down.
Indeed - Esc is the correct way to exit. I always hit Enter, or clicked away from the text; hitting Esc prevents the box from appearing.
Yeah, it’s a bit annoying, but a small thing, as it doesn’t really change functionality. Nice to know I/we aren’t seeing things that aren’t there!
