first of all: I think it’s pretty impressive what you can do with Dorico. And here in the forum, too, you always get very expert help.
Sometimes, though…
…it can be quite a challenge to get to grips with Dorico. One of the long-standing issues has been selecting elements with the mouse. Unfortunately, this isn’t very consistent and, above all, is very imprecise:
If I use Command + Click on individual elements, the note is selected at random. Sometimes it works that way, though…
If I want to select only the lyrics on a staff by left-clicking and dragging with the mouse, it’s virtually impossible. All sorts of things get selected, just not the text itself…

It’s always worth showing us what you’re trying to achieve, rather than focusing on methods.
It may be that there are easier ways to do what you want.
As said, in the other replies, Dorico offers lots of different methods, like Select More; Filter; and things like showing all the Properties for all selected items, which means you don’t have to be so specific.
What I wanted to do is: copy lyrics from one singer to the other.
I do know, that there are different methods (like e.g. filtering), but - for me, and in other applications - it is far more easy and precise, to do it with dragging the mouse.
So I will not loose hope, that in future it might be possible in Dorico as well…
You say that, but you’re complaining that it isn’t!
Drag-selecting lyrics is always going to be tricky, because there will inevitably be other stuff nearby: low hanging notes; and things like dynamics on the staff below. Unless you make a rectangle that’s exactly the height of the lyric characters.
As said: Select the first syllable, then Command click the last, and Select More to select all lyrics between the two.
Or, if you select everything – notes, lyrics, dynamics, etc – and Copy, you can now paste those lyrics into the popover.
It’s definitely worth having key shortcuts for: Duplicate to Staff Above/Below and Filter commands.
Shortcuts can be consecutive, e.g. one key followed by another. So I have Cmd F, followed by L to filter Lyrics; and Cmd F followed by N to filter Notes; and Cmd F followed by X to filter Text, etc (using the same keys as for the popovers – C for Clefs, O for Ornaments).
I can select, filter, and copy a line of lyrics to the staff below with one big selection, Cmd F, L; then my shortcut for duplicate below Shift Alt M. Three taps!
OK. It may be that my inner translator isn’t that good, so I didn’t express myself precisely enough (from now on I’ll be using DeepL again ): I find it easier to select with the mouse. And there are applications where you can do exactly that with precision. (e.g. Cubase or drawing programmes… even M$ Word… ).
But Dorico (unfortunately) isn’t one of those Applications yet.

I’ve gone through your steps (as I understood them…):
Select a syllable – Command-click on the last syllable… Where and how do I now select ‘Select More’? It doesn’t work with a right-click either. There’s nowhere to select it from…
If I Shift-click, the notes are selected as well. Then I’d have to go via ‘Filter’ again – that’s a total of three further selection options… Of course, I end up doing it that way, but it’s neither intuitive, nor easy, nor quick… Hence my wistful comment here
But I’m also going to look into setting up some suitable shortcuts. That’s – if it works, that is… – certainly a much simpler solution. Thanks for the suggestion!

Now I have a shortcut to filter the lyrics.
And in addition I learned to “add more” with
click (first word)
command-click (last word)
command-shift-A-click (select all same items between)
…hope I will remember, the next time it becomes necessary
Then Select More. It will select all of the same type of thing in the BAR.
Select More again! It will select more in the System.
Select More again! It will select all the same things in the Flow.
