I find selecting individual elements difficult at times, because the zone of selection around staves seems far too ample to me. In the following example the cursor (represented by an arrow in the example) selects the entire measure in the upper staff when the tip is the distance of over a space from the staff, which makes selecting the chords in the lower staff perilous from above the lower staff:
I think that the notes should be selected when the cursor is clicked on or within a staff, not outside of it. Perhaps there is a setting that adjusts this?
Hi @John_Ruggero
it seems that there is, for mouse clicking/selection, an upper staff zone, a lower staff zone, and a dead zone in between, and they are independent of protruding elements on the staves. The accuracy is of course bigger if you zoom in:
For near positioned or even overlapping elements, you can also use the shortcut Shift + alt/option and, with the shortcut pressed, clicking several times selects every time something different
If you work in Galley view, you can expand the ideal staff gaps to something like 200%, so you have more space for your selection, because this increases the dead zone between the staves for the Galley view (and doesn’t affect the layout of Page view).
@Christian_R Thank you for your very clear explanation. You are such an important resource on this forum.
Yes, I could increase the distance between the staves, but wouldn’t for various reasons. And I don’t work in Galley view, because I need to see the whole page layout.
A fail to see the advantage of having an indefinite zone of selection around the staves when there is the perfectly clear one defined by the staves themselves. And I am experiencing many disadvantages.
